Primary Purpose
The Payroll Accounting Specialist handles payroll processing, ensures compliance with tax regulations, maintains accurate financial records, and supports accounting operations.
Major Responsibilities
- Review timesheets, time off requests/approvals and process payroll for weekly and semi-monthly paid employees through UKG Pro (Workforce Management)
- Ensures compliance with multi-state payroll tax regulations
- Reviews the computation of pay and associated deductions for accuracy
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of city, sate, provincial, local and federal legislation affecting payroll; understands and follows applicable provisions
- Preparation of required tax filings and other reporting
- Preparation of W-2 forms, tax filings for federal withholdings, unemployment taxes, etc.
- Supervises or compiles, calculates, and posts payroll data to payroll records
- May coordinate payroll processing with an outside service provider
- Responds to and resolves any inquiries regarding paychecks or payroll reporting
- Investigates and reconciles errors; approves adjustments
- Monitors the effectiveness of systems, policies and procedures and makes appropriate recommendations to ensure daily operations are efficient; implements approved changes
- Handles unusual or difficult inquiries; situations through direct personal action or refers to the appropriate individual
- Ensures payroll issues are escalated and resolved promptly
- Exercise discretion in managing company proprietary information
- Supports the Finance department with administrative tasks and GL changes
- Understands and demonstrates Medco’s core values
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required
Experience/Skills Required;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Outlook/Email, Excel (minimum of intermediate level), speed and accuracy with the keyboard
- Ability to set priorities that meet ever changing needs of the business; can multitask in a fast paced, challenging environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interface with all levels of management
- Basic understanding of office administrative procedures and etiquette
- Excellent communication skills (Verbal / Writing)
- Experience in payroll process for a multi-state organization
- Experience processing payroll in UKG Pro (Workforce Management)
- Knowledge for multi-state tax guidelines and compliance requirements
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a remote or hybrid environment
