Position Summary:
This position is responsible for collaborative development, management, and support to children ages 0-5, families and staff to ensure Health and Disability identifications are addressed and implemented. Assures the compliance of all Head Start Program Performance Standards as they pertain to education and services for children and families. Health & Disabilities Coordinator responsible for strengthening relationships with the community, especially those with disabilities, promoting health and disability-related programs and services, and ensuring access to information and resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Organize and ensure the implementation of all children’s regular and ongoing health care is maintained by a healthcare professional within the first 30 days of entry into the program. Within 45 calendar days of entry the Health and Disabilities Coordinator (HDC) must collect evidence-based vision and hearing as required in 1302.42(b)(2) of the Head Start Performance Standards.

Within 90 days of entry into the program, the HDC will invite Dental Health professionals to conduct oral health care screening on each child to determine as to whether or not the child is up to date on a schedule of age-appropriate preventive dental care program.

Monitor the Disabilities Services Program, ensuring implementation of IEP accommodations and modifications are implemented as well as timely referrals for students with potential disabilities.

Supervise and assist staff in the implementation with possible strategies with education and challenges with the classroom whether it be instruction, assessment, environmental issues or behavior modifications and disability services.

Ensure that health goals for individual children and families are recorded and tracked. Confirm related activities are planned to address students’ progressive learning.

Approve Lesson plans ensuring child goals, IEP goals, and individualization are occurring.

Conduct initial observation on individual children and refer to health professionals for developmental, social/emotional and mental health concerns. Assure all children and families with special needs receive accommodations in accordance with ADA, IDEA, LEA and Head Start Performance Standards. Consult the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in regard to immunization schedules to ensure all children are up to date and follow up is conducted in a timely manner.

Coach teaching staff to support targeted development for children with special needs.

Utilize Xaa-wan'-k'wvt Early Learning Program source of on-going assessment Teaching Strategies/Creative Curriculum Developmental Profile to monitor teacher’s implementation of quality curriculum, communication with families and child progress. Generate and maintain data reports on Child Outcomes three times annually, and present results to the Head Start Manager.

Possess a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science (BA/BS) degree in child development, early childhood education, or equivalent coursework

One year of experience working with children up to 5 years of age.

One year of supervisory experience
-
CPR and First Aid within 60 days.

Mandated Reporter certification with 60 days.
-
Possess a valid driver’s license to drive agency vehicle(s).
