Job Description: SMT Operator
Position Summary
The SMT Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring surface mount technology production equipment to assemble printed circuit boards (PCBs) to quality standards. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to production schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality guidelines.
Key Responsibilities & Time Allocation
1. Machine Setup & Preparation – 20%
- Prepare SMT machines for production by loading feeders, stencils, and components.
- Verify correct materials and documentation (BOM, setup sheets, work orders).
- Perform changeovers between production runs efficiently.
2. Machine Operation & Monitoring – 40%
- Operate pick-and-place machines, screen printers, reflow ovens, and AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) equipment.
- Monitor machine performance and adjust parameters to maintain throughput and accuracy.
- Ensure consistent placement of components with minimal defects.
3. Quality Control & Inspection – 20%
- Inspect assembled boards visually and with AOI equipment.
- Identify and correct defects such as misalignment, solder bridging, or missing components.
- Document inspection results and report quality issues to supervisors/engineering.
4. Maintenance & Troubleshooting – 10%
- Perform routine machine maintenance (e.g., nozzle cleaning, feeder checks).
- Assist with troubleshooting equipment or process issues.
- Escalate unresolved technical issues to maintenance/engineering teams.
5. Documentation & Reporting – 5%
- Complete production logs, defect reports, and shift handover notes.
- Record downtime, rework, and yield metrics as required.
6. Continuous Improvement & Team Support – 5%
- Participate in lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives.
- Assist team members during high-volume runs or complex setups.
- Follow 5S and workplace organization practices.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training a plus.
- 1–2 years of experience in electronics assembly or SMT operations preferred.
- Ability to read assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOM), and process instructions.
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610 standards is desirable.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods (8–12 hours).
- Manual dexterity to handle small components.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
