American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and Level 1 Trauma background.

Acute care hospital setting at a Level 1 Trauma center

Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit (6N) with 48 total beds, including 10 epilepsy specialty rooms
-
Patient population includes epilepsy (24–48 hr trend EEGs), brain tumors, subdural hematoma, scoliosis surgeries, TBI, and other neurological diagnoses

Patient ratio of 1:4 on both days and nights

Charge nurse available with no patient assignment; one resource RN on days and nights; PCT support of 1–2 on days and 1 at night

Primarily Med/Surg with some telemetry monitoring required

BiPAP vents managed by Respiratory Therapy; RT available 24/7
-
SWAT RN available for difficult IV access; pharmacy available 24/7

Charting via Cerner EMR
-
12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)

3 weekend shifts required per 4-week period; self-scheduling

Holiday rotation based on unit coverage needs

Travelers are first to float; potential float to Med/Surg, Tele, or sister campuses

Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Level 1 Trauma experience required

Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to offer confirmation; candidates have 2 attempts

Strong critical thinking and assessment skills, with ability to detect subtle changes in patient condition

Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates; driver's license used to verify permanent address

Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Copy of driver's license required for consideration

BSN preferred; Med/Surg or Tele certification preferred

Cerner EMR experience preferred

Responsibilities include neurological assessments, telemetry monitoring, EEG trend monitoring support, and care for post-operative and acute neuro patients; Med/Surg/Tele RNs with strong skills will be trained to assess cranial nerves

Day 1 of orientation includes a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; nurses who fail to maintain sterile field may be dismissed — candidates should be confident in both skills prior to starting

Candidates who fail the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or the sterile technique SIMs Lab on both attempts will be ineligible to work at CommonSpirit facilities in Arizona and the Sacramento, CA region for 6 months

Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; those employed PRN through outside staffing firms may be considered
