We are seeking an experienced Medical Biller & Coder to join our team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and knowledgeable in ASC billing, coding, and insurance reimbursement.
Position Summary
The Medical Biller & Coder is responsible for accurately coding surgical procedures, submitting insurance claims, following up on outstanding accounts, and ensuring timely reimbursement. This position works closely with providers, clinical staff, and insurance companies to maintain compliance while maximizing revenue cycle efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for surgical procedures.
- Review operative reports and medical documentation for coding accuracy.
- Submit electronic claims to commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and workers' compensation carriers.
- Monitor claim status and resolve billing edits, denials, and payment discrepancies.
- Appeal denied claims and follow up on unpaid balances.
- Post insurance and patient payments accurately.
- Verify insurance benefits and prior authorizations as needed.
- Ensure compliance with payer guidelines and federal regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with physicians and staff to resolve coding and billing questions.
- Assist with month-end reporting and other revenue cycle activities.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of medical billing and coding experience required.
- Previous Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), outpatient surgery, or surgical practice experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and medical terminology.
- Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing.
- CPC, CCS, or other coding certification preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and billing software.
