Accounting Manager / Finance Director
Every dollar we manage goes toward building a more just and equitable community. We partner with neighbors to advance racial, social, and economic justice—connecting families and individuals from diverse backgrounds with economic opportunity, meaningful relationships, and a better quality of life.
Our programs span Adult Education & Workforce Development, the Financial REACH Center, Early Childhood Education & Care, Energy Programs, Food & Nutrition Programs, and Housing Programs. Strong financial management is what makes all of it possible. That's where you come in.
Please note: A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is a strict requirement for this role. Applications without this qualification will not be considered.
Why This Role Matters
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you'll lead our General Ledger close processes and financial reporting, overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Grant/Project Management. Your work will keep every record accurate and fully compliant with agency procedures, GAAP, and local, state, and federal regulations. Your reports will also guide program managers, funding sources, auditors, and our Board of Directors.
What You'll Do
- Lead the fiscal team. Manage day-to-day fiscal office operations, providing hands-on guidance to staff overseeing grant and fiscal activities.
- Own the financials. Manage the general ledger, lead month-end close, prepare audit schedules, and work directly with external auditors under the CFO's direction.
- Get allocation right. Oversee payroll cost allocation, ensuring payroll costs and invoices are correctly assigned to contracts, accounts, and budgets in line with regulatory standards.
- Turn data into decisions. Prepare monthly budget-versus-actual reports for each program, then review results with program managers and the CFO to control costs and maximize impact.
- Support grants and contracts. Help build annual program and funding source budgets, keep budget data current in the accounting system, and collaborate on new and renewal grant applications.
- Tell the financial story. Support the CFO in preparing Finance Committee presentations and agency-wide data collection reports.
- Shape smart policy. Maintain, update, and improve fiscal policies and procedures, and implement new accounting system modules as needed.
What You'll Bring
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (required)
- Experience: At least five years in an accounting role, with hands-on knowledge of non-profit accounting, budgeting, cost control principles, GAAP, and grants management
