General Description:It is the responsibility of the Lifeguard to provide a safe environment for everyone that uses the pool area.
Essential Job Duties That Must Be Safely Performed With or Without Reasonable Accommodation:
1. Ensure patron safety and duty to act in emergency situation
2. Scan assigned areas at all times and never leave the area unless qualified relief help is present.
3. Assist in maintaining proper pool records.
4. Assist in pool maintenance.
5. Ensure the pool area is never left unsecured.
6. Practice rescue skills regularly and attend staff trainings.
7. Possess the knowledge to use all rescue equipment and first aid equipment.
8. Follow and enforce the facility rules at all times.
9. Responsible for setting a good example on and off duty.
10. Wear proper swimsuit and lifeguard shirt.
11. Carry a rescue tube and whistle at all times.
12. Carry up to 50 pounds.
13. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands/Hazards:
1. The position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, jumping and swimming (water resistance against body for movement and propulsion).
2. The position requires contact with members, families, facility staff, and the general public.
3. The position requires regularly lifting and /or moving up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and potentially well over 100 pounds of an individual's body supported by water during lifeguard duties.
4. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be very high given the number of people in the pool, their noise levels, and the pool acoustics.
Required Job Skills:
1. Effective oral communication skills.
2. Strong interpersonal skills.
Education/Experience:
1. Certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and/or YMCA Lifeguard training.
2. Certifications in First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer/HealthCare Provider.(Willing to certify the right candidate)
