This position is located in Fond du Lac, WI
The Van Driver is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient transportation of students and/or other passengers in accordance with company policies, state regulations, and school district requirements. The driver ensures a positive customer service experience while maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and dependability.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a company-provided passenger van along assigned routes and schedules.
- Transport students, special needs passengers, or other authorized riders to and from schools, programs, and designated locations.
- Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in proper working condition.
- Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies at all times.
- Maintain proper student/passenger management through positive communication and consistent enforcement of safety rules.
- Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle as needed, including securing mobility devices and ensuring seatbelts are properly fastened.
- Immediately report any safety concerns, mechanical issues, delays, or incidents to the dispatcher or supervisor.
- Keep the van clean and presentable for daily use.
- Accurately complete daily logs, reports, and other required documentation.
- Attend all required safety meetings, trainings, and refresher courses.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record.
- Must meet all state and local requirements for transporting school children (may include background checks, medical exam, and/or drug testing).
- Prior experience in passenger transportation preferred but not required.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with students, parents, school staff, and coworkers.
- Commitment to punctuality, reliability, and safe driving practices.
- Ability to assist passengers with special needs in a respectful and safe manner.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time while driving.
- Ability to assist passengers in and out of the vehicle as necessary.
- Ability to perform routine vehicle inspections (bending, crouching, and light lifting may be required).
Work Environment
- Driving in various weather and traffic conditions.
- Interaction with students, parents, school staff, and the general public.
- May require split shifts (morning and afternoon routes).
