The Resource Nurse will collaborate with the Director of Health Services to support the district health services' needs. This would include program management, nursing services, health education, community health awareness, and professional practice. Through collaboration the Resource Nurse, Director of Health Services, and each building specific School Nurse and Principal will identify areas of support needed for the health services in each school. Additionally, the Resource Nurse will collaborate with the Director of Health Services to meet CSHS grant-related performance measures.
Qualifications: Graduate of a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing Current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.Current Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license as a school nurse preferred.CPR/AED certification by a recognized provider required, renewable annually.A minimum of 2 years' experience in school nursing, pediatric private duty, public health, or emergency room nursing. Performance Responsibilities: Completes orientation program with each School Nurse of each district building to safely manage coverage issues when floated.Provide coverage for district school health offices for scheduled days or partial days as needed when sub coverage cannot be arranged (i.e. field trip coverage, personal days, professional days and meetings).Collaborates with district school nurses to establish procedures and performs all DPH mandated screening programs for appropriate grade levels to include height, weight, BMI, vision, hearing and postural screening as needed.Participates as a health team member; shares information regarding children's special health care needs, which may affect learning and growth. Acts as an advocate for the student and family when appropriate.Provides competent nursing care to all students using the American Nurses Association Standards of Care (2021) and the National Association of School Nurses School Nursing Practice Framework (NASN, 2024).Establishes and maintains a coordinated school health program that complies with Massachusetts and local guidelines, resolutions, and statutes governing nursing and school healthConsults with school physician, administrators, and staff to establish, review, and revise policies, procedures, and programs for school health servicesCarries out communicable disease prevention, infection control, and prevention of bloodborne pathogensDevelops and supports implementation of individualized health care plans and emergency action plans, when appropriateCollects health information in a systematic, continuous, and confidential manner.Provides medically prescribed interventions including medication administrationResponds to potential child abuse or neglectMaintains a daily log of health service activitiesIdentifies health related needs for inclusion in Individualized Education Plans or 504 accommodation plansActs as a resource in health education to students, parents, families, and school personnel and providing appropriate referrals.Other duties as determined by Director of Health Services This is a part-time position funded for one year through the CSHS grant.
Compensation: $50 - $60 hourly depending on experience and degree.
