Job Summary
A Registered Nurse specializing in bowel care for spinal cord injury patients provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care focused on the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized bowel management programs. This role aims to promote gastrointestinal health, prevent complications, and enhance the quality of life for individuals with neurogenic bowel dysfunction.
Responsibilities
- Perform routing and as-needed bowel interventions, including digital stimulation, suppository or enema administration, and manual evacuation, while adhering to evidence-based protocols and maintaining patient dignity and comfort.
- The nurse continuously assesses bowel function, monitors for complications such as constipation, impaction, autonomic dysreflexia, or incontinence, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to adjust care plans accordingly.
Qualifications
- Currently licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Georgia
- Previous experience as a Registered Nurse with some bowel care experience is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and client care skills
- Valid driver’s license
- First aid/CPR certification required
