JOB This position is an underfill for an Engineering Tech 3. This position is located in Reno/Sparks in District II Bridge Maintenance Crew 255. Incumbent is responsible for assisting the Supervisor II, Associate Engineer, with the coordination of the District Bridge Maintenance Program. This position requires occasional shift adjustments (Night Work, Weekends, Overtime, Holidays). Duties include bridge maintenance and structural inspection; recommending material and repair strategies; coordinating with Federal, State, County, and local agencies for bridge repair contracts; preparing time/cost estimates; developing project scopes; and assisting the division in conducting the National Bridge Inventory and Inspection Program; coordinating and inspecting various construction activity for several district contracts, including tracking quantities and reviewing and accepting invoices from contractors for completed work; responding to any auto accidents that cause damage to bridge components and assessing damages to determine a repair strategy; developing project Special Provisions; coordinating with local law enforcement to assist in managing the displaced human population that occupies the department’s Right of Way; and reviewing bridge inspection reports to determine candidates for future repair projects. **INCUMBENT MAY PROGRESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL AFTER MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND WITH APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY.**
Engineering Technicians perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers including drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials and soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work. Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods, and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing engineering related documents. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience involving public contact; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Knowledge of: personal computers and related ancillary equipment.
Skills in: mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
