About the Position
We are seeking a motivated, analytical Purchasing & Marketing Specialist to join our team at a manufacturing facility specializing in cold drawn wire. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate with a strong quantitative background to build a career at the intersection of purchasing, supply chain, sales, and industrial marketing.
The successful candidate will work closely with suppliers, production personnel, customers, and management to help ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of steel while supporting the company's growth and customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing & Supply Chain
- Purchase steel rod and other raw materials required for cold drawn wire production.
- Monitor steel pricing, availability, lead times, and market conditions.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations and negotiate pricing and terms.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with steel mills, distributors, and other suppliers.
- Track purchase orders, inventory levels, deliveries, and material requirements.
- Analyze purchasing data to identify cost savings and supply-chain improvements.
- Coordinate closely with production and operations to ensure materials are available when needed.
- Work out scheduling and planning of production.
Marketing & Business Development
- Support sales and marketing initiatives for the company's cold-drawn wire products.
- Research customers, competitors, industries, and potential new markets.
- Analyze sales and market data to identify trends and opportunities.
- Assist with customer communications, quotations, presentations, and marketing materials.
- Help develop strategies to expand existing accounts and identify prospective
- Work with management to translate market information into actionable business opportunities.
Analysis & Reporting
- Prepare spreadsheets, reports, forecasts, and management analyses.
- Use quantitative data to evaluate purchasing decisions, pricing, inventory, and market opportunities.
- Develop and maintain dashboards or other tools to track key performance indicators.
- Apply analytical thinking to solve operational and commercial problems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or analytical field such as Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with numbers, compare alternatives, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Willingness to learn the steel and wire manufacturing industry.
- Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship or experience in purchasing, supply chain, manufacturing, sales, marketing, or business analysis.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, databases, or business intelligence tools.
- Interest in commodity markets, steel, manufacturing, or industrial products.
- Experience using Excel for financial or operational analysis.
