We're seeking an experienced Safety Officer to join our team and support safe, efficient operations across our active construction sites. The Safety Officer plays a critical role in promoting a strong safety culture, identifying hazards, enforcing safety standards, conducting training, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. This position works closely with project teams and field personnel to protect employees, equipment, and the public, proactively prevent incidents, and reinforce safe work practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits, documenting findings and preparing formal reports.
- Identify and correct unsafe working conditions and behaviors on-site.
- Coach and train employees on safe work practices in compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.
- Monitor the execution of safety-critical tasks and ensure proper procedures are followed.
- Represent Liesfeld Contractor’s safety standards on all job sites.
- Investigate safety incidents and prepare reports as needed.
- Conduct safety orientations for new hires or subcontractor personnel.
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and crews to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- OSHA 510 and/or 500 certification required.
- Advanced construction experience, including site safety management.
- Strong interpersonal, observation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and positively influence safe work behaviors.
- Dependable, responsible, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to influence safe work behaviors.
- Physically capable of working on active construction sites.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual skills a huge plus (ability to communicate with Spanish-speaking crews is highly valued).
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
- Additional industry-recognized safety certifications.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and documentation.
- Instructor certifications and experience leading safety training sessions.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal construction safety regulations.
