Gauge Lab Technician – Level 2
Position Summary
Working under limited supervision, the Level 2 Gauge Lab Technician performs intermediate-level calibration, maintenance, and documentation activities to support the accuracy and reliability of inspection, measuring, and test equipment (IM&TE). This position is responsible for performing calibrations on a wide variety of gauges and measuring equipment, maintaining calibration records, troubleshooting gauge issues, and ensuring compliance with company quality standards and applicable customer and regulatory requirements. The Level 2 Technician works independently on routine assignments, assists with more complex calibrations, and provides guidance to Level 1 technicians.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Work safely in accordance with all company safety policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Properly manage PPE by:
- Using the required PPE for assigned tasks.
- Disposing of used PPE in designated work center containers.
- Transferring hazardous waste containers to the appropriate hazardous waste storage location.
- Perform routine calibrations of inspection, measuring, and test equipment (IM&TE) using established procedures and calibration standards.
- Evaluate gauges for accuracy, functionality, wear, and serviceability.
- Troubleshoot gauges that fail calibration and determine appropriate disposition, including repair, adjustment, replacement, or outsourcing for calibration.
- Retrieve, clean, inspect, calibrate, label, and return gauges to production in accordance with calibration schedules.
- Maintain accurate calibration records and update the calibration management system.
- Review calibration due lists and coordinate calibration activities to ensure equipment remains in compliance.
- Assist in maintaining calibration standards, reference equipment, and gauge inventories.
- Verify calibration certificates received from outside calibration vendors for completeness and compliance.
- Assist with investigations involving gauge discrepancies, calibration failures, or nonconforming equipment.
- Maintain organized storage of gauges and calibration standards.
- Ensure compliance with company quality procedures, customer requirements, AS9100 standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Assist in developing and improving calibration procedures and work instructions.
- Train and mentor Level 1 Gauge Lab Technicians on calibration techniques, gauge handling, and documentation requirements.
- Support internal and external quality audits by providing calibration records and documentation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Gauge Lab.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Proficient computer skills, including experience with calibration management software and Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of dimensional metrology and calibration principles.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and tolerance requirements.
- Ability to use and calibrate common measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, thread gauges, plug gauges, ring gauges, torque tools, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize workload and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Required Experience
- Two to four (2–4) years of experience in a calibration laboratory, quality department, manufacturing environment, or related field.
- Experience performing calibration of inspection, measuring, and test equipment (IM&TE).
- Experience maintaining calibration records and working within a quality management system preferred.
- Experience in an AS9100, ISO 9001, aerospace, or precision manufacturing environment preferred.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Technical training in metrology, calibration, quality assurance, or a related discipline preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Hours M-F 7:30am-4pm
Pay: $20.75 - $31.00 per hour
