Remember the exact moment science clicked for you? Maybe it was watching a sudden chemical reaction, looking through a microscope for the first time, or building a model bridge. At Tichenor Middle School, we believe science shouldn’t just be memorized from a textbook—it should be experienced.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, curious, and energetic individual to inspire our middle school students (Grades 6–8) to ask big questions, explore the natural world, and think like scientists.
No Teaching Certification? No Problem! We believe that a truly impactful teacher starts with a passion for STEM, a growth mindset, and a genuine love for working with kids. We can teach you the pedagogy if you bring the excitement! If you are uncertified but eager to jump into the classroom, we will completely guide and support —starting with your substitute certification and transitioning into a full teaching credential through alternative certification classes.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities):
- Spark Curiosity: Deliver engaging, hands-on science lessons (covering earth, life, and physical sciences) that turn abstract concepts into real-world discoveries.
- Lead Lab Experiments: Facilitate safe, exciting classroom experiments and interactive STEM projects that get students out of their seats and learning by doing.
- Build a Welcoming Environment: Create a positive, structured classroom culture where middle school students feel supported, respected, and encouraged to take academic risks.
- Mentor & Guide: Understand and embrace the unique energy, humor, and developmental growth of middle schoolers, acting as an impactful educator and positive role model.
- Grow Continuously: Collaborate closely with veteran teachers and instructional coaches to continuously refine your teaching skills, lesson pacing, and classroom management techniques.
Who You Are (Qualifications):
- A Passion for Science: You hold a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Engineering, etc.) OR possess a strong professional background/demonstrated deep interest in the sciences.
- Excited to Work with Kids: You have prior experience coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, volunteering with youth, or managing groups of kids. You genuinely enjoy interacting with middle schoolers!
- A Great Communicator: You can break down complex scientific ideas into simple, fun, and stories that can instantly capture an adolescent's attention.
- Ready to Learn: You have a growth mindset and are excited about the opportunity to take classes, attend workshops, and complete the necessary steps to earn your certifications with our absolute backing.
