The Swing Shift Production Lead is responsible for leading production operations during the second shift while serving as the primary technical resource across the production floor. This hands-on leadership position ensures production continues efficiently after day shift, equipment is operating safely, quality standards are maintained, and completed work is prepared for shipping and the following day's production.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated leader with extensive experience in wide-format printing, finishing, fabrication, and production workflow. This individual will step into any role necessary to meet customer deadlines while setting the standard for productivity, craftsmanship, organization, and accountability.
As the senior production employee on swing shift, this position serves as the acting production leader, making informed decisions, supporting team members, and maintaining operational excellence.
Start on days for training, followed by swing shift 1:30 PM – Midnight. Mon – Thursday. Wages $24 - $27 per hour DPE.

Responsibilities
As the Production Lead on swing shift, you will be expected to:
- Serve as the primary production leader during second shift.
- Act as the point of contact for production questions and operational decisions after normal business hours.
- Assign and prioritize work to maximize productivity and meet production schedules.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and training to production employees.
- Promote a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
- Ensure all work meets Summit Graphics PDX quality standards before advancing to the next department.
- Address minor production issues independently and escalate larger concerns to management when necessary.
- Communicate shift updates, production progress, equipment concerns, and outstanding work through detailed shift reports.
- Hold team members accountable to company expectations for safety, attendance, productivity, quality, and housekeeping.
- Lead by example through professionalism, work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to assist wherever needed.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflow, reduce waste, increase efficiency, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Help train new employees on equipment operation, production procedures, quality standards, and company expectations.
Production Operations
- Lead all production activities during swing shift.
- Monitor workflow and ensure jobs move efficiently between departments.
- Prioritize work to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.
- Communicate production status and outstanding items to first shift management.
- Maintain accurate production documentation and job tracking.
Equipment Operation
Operate and assist with all production equipment, including but not limited to:
- UV Flatbed Printers
- Roll-to-Roll Printers
- Dye Sublimation Printers
- Transfer Presses
- CNC Router
- Laser Cutter
- Digital Cutting Tables
- Laminators
- Vinyl Plotters
Responsibilities include:
- Equipment setup
- Production operation
- Routine maintenance and cleaning
- Troubleshooting production issues
- Monitoring print quality
- Reporting maintenance concerns
Finishing & Fabrication
Support all finishing operations including:
- Laminating
- Mounting
- Precision trimming
- Routing and digital cutting
- Sewing support (May not be required)
- SEG finishing (May not be required)
- Banner finishing
- Grommet installation
- Hardware assembly
- Product inspections
- Final quality control
Packaging & Shipping Preparation
- Package completed projects according to Summit Graphics standards.
- Verify quantities, components, and quality before packaging.
- Build kits and organize shipments.
- Stage completed work for Shipping & Receiving.
- Prepare workstations and production materials for first shift.
- Pull materials and hardware for upcoming production.
- Ensure day shift begins with an organized, production-ready workspace.
- Ability to separate green M&M’s from the other colors in the bag.
Quality Assurance
- Inspect finished products before packaging.
- Verify dimensions, color accuracy, finishing, and overall craftsmanship.
- Identify and resolve quality concerns before products leave production.
- Minimize rework through proactive quality checks throughout production.
Safety & Facility Organization
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production floor.
- Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures.
- Ensure equipment is properly shut down and secured at shift end.
- Maintain organized work areas and storage locations.
- Report safety concerns immediately.
- Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience in wide-format printing, sign production, graphics manufacturing, or related production environment.
- Experience operating multiple types of production equipment.
- Strong understanding of print production, finishing, fabrication, and packaging processes.
- Demonstrated leadership or lead production experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and work throughout an entire shift.
- Mandatory 5 Panel Drug Test (Including Marijuana).
Preferred
- Experience with RIP, imposition & Adobe prep software.
- Experience operating CNC routers, lasers, and digital cutting equipment.
- Experience with SEG fabric graphics and sewing operations.
- Forklift certification or willingness to become certified.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
