Responsibilities: Duties vary by trade and assignment but may include:
- Ship construction, repair, maintenance, and modernization work
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Operating trade-specific tools and equipment
- Working aboard vessels, in shipyards, and industrial environments
- Following all safety, quality, and security requirements
- Supporting project schedules and production goals
Basic Requirements for All Positions:
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
- Ability to work in an industrial shipyard environment
- Ability to climb ladders, lift materials, and work in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work aboard vessels and in confined spaces as required
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance
- Ability to properly wear all required PPE
Basic Employment Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening (requirements vary by employer and contract)
- Ability to pass a background check if required by the customer or contract
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces and elevated work areas
Naval Shipyard Access Requirements (Many shipbuilding and ship repair facilities require personnel to)
- Obtain a government-issued shipyard badge
- Present valid government-issued Real ID identification
- Pass security screening for shipyard or military installation access
- Comply with all shipyard safety and security regulations
Depending on the project or location, personnel may also need:
- Authorization to access military installations
- Enrollment in contractor access programs
- Completion of site-specific orientation and safety training
