Overview
We are seeking
Electrical Designer I professionals to support a utility grid design program across Hampton and Chesapeake, Virginia. This role focuses on developing and producing technical drawings using AutoCAD, while learning utility design standards and contributing to high-quality infrastructure projects.
Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply, provided they have strong AutoCAD skills and technical aptitude.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and modify detailed electrical design drawings using AutoCAD
- Develop wiring diagrams, layouts, and construction drawings for utility projects
- Review design work and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with standards and specifications
- Perform calculations using geometry and trigonometry to support design accuracy
- Maintain QA/QC processes and ensure high-quality deliverables
- Learn and apply customer-specific utility design standards and requirements
- Manage design assignments independently and meet project deadlines
- Collaborate with supervisors and team members to ensure project success
- Support continuous improvement of design processes and documentation accuracy
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Strong AutoCAD experience (required)
- Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD preferred
- Strong mathematical skills (geometry and trigonometry)
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively
- Strong attention to detail and QA/QC mindset
- Willingness to learn utility design standards and industry practices
Preferred Qualifications
- GIS experience
- Basic knowledge of electrical distribution design
- Overhead distribution
- Underground distribution
- Familiarity with utility regulations, codes, and standards
- Ability to develop custom AutoCAD applications or enhancements
Work Environment / Additional Information
- Office-based role in Hampton or Chesapeake, VA
