Description of Position
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in overseeing site preparation, earthwork, grading, excavation, and utility installation projects. This role ensures that projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining quality standards. The Assistant Superintendent coordinates with project managers, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure smooth site operations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Superintendent in managing daily site operations, ensuring adherence to project plans and specifications
Oversee site preparation activities, including grading, excavation, soil stabilization, and utility installation
Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and crews to ensure efficient workflow
Monitor job site safety and enforce company policies and OSHA regulations
Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with engineering plans, local regulations, and quality standards
Assist in scheduling, workforce allocation, and equipment management to meet project deadlines
Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, progress updates, and material logs
Identify and address potential issues or delays, working proactively to resolve them
Communicate with project managers, engineers, and clients regarding project status and any necessary adjustments
Train and mentor crew members on proper site work techniques, safety protocols, and equipment usage
Requirements of the Position
Education and Certification – High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred. Certifications in OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, and other relevant safety training are a plus
Recommended Work Experiences – 3-7 years of relevant experience in construction
Physical Demands – Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching (with arms and hands), handling, talking, hearing, depth perception, lifting, vision (close, peripheral, depth, ability to adjust focus), and lifting/moving up to 35+ pounds
Working Conditions – Considerable local and non-local travel may be required; Work with a group and/or team; Frequent conflict situations may be present; Work after normal business hours; Potential hazardous work; Frequent exposure to extreme outside weather conditions and high levels of noise
