Pipe Welder / Fuel System Installer — $28–$32/hr DOE
Full Time | Southern California (must reside in SoCal) | Travel throughout California required
About the Role
Tank Specialists of California is hiring a full-time pipe welder to work alongside our fuel system installation crews. We design, install, and service underground and above-ground fuel storage systems across California, and we have been doing it for over 35 years.
This is not a welding-only position. When welding is not being performed, you will be working with the crew on tank installation, excavation support, piping, and related fuel system work. Expect that non-welding duties will make up roughly 25%–40% of your overall work time. If you are only interested in burning rod, this is not the right fit. If you want to learn a specialized trade and build a long-term career, we will train you on the rest.
Compensation
$28.00 – $30.00 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated welding proficiency.
We also perform city, county, and other public agency work that falls under DIR prevailing wage. When you are assigned to those projects, you are paid the applicable prevailing wage rate for the hours worked on that job — a meaningful bump over your base rate. The amount of prevailing wage work varies by year and project schedule, so we do not guarantee it, but pipe welding certifications make you eligible for more of it.
What You'll Do
● Weld 3/4" to 4" steel and stainless steel pipe to code
● Work as part of a fuel system installation crew on underground and above-ground tank projects
● Read and work from mechanical drawings and installation plans
● Perform installation, assembly, and related field work during non-welding periods
● Maintain your service truck, welder, and tools
● Travel to job sites throughout California
What We're Looking For
● Ability to weld 3/4" – 4" steel and stainless steel pipe
● 1+ year of pipe welding experience preferred — we will also hire directly out of school for candidates who can demonstrate welding proficiency
● Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings
● High school diploma or GED
● Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
● Willingness to travel and work out of town within California
● Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
● Solid communication skills and a team-first attitude
● Ability to stay flexible in a fast-paced field environment
● Pipe welding certifications a plus
