Title: Assistant Professor of Architecture and Interior Design

The Adrian College Department of Art and Design invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure, term-contract, Assistant Professor position with responsibilities to teach a diversity of types of courses, including a 4/4 teaching load, while also supporting expectations for advising, college service, and scholarship.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- The successful candidate must possess a master's degree or higher in Architecture, Interior Design, or a closely related field, or demonstrate 10+ years of professional experience in a relevant field. Preference will be given to candidates with professional experience in the interior design and/or architecture industries, as well as demonstrated ability to connect professional practice with student learning in the classroom and studio environment.
- Teaching responsibilities may include introduct01y and advanced courses in architecture, interior design, residential and spatial design, drafting and visualization, industry-standard design software, and senior-level professional practices or career preparation seminars. The successful candidate should be able to develop engaging, project-based coursework that prepares students for contempora1y creative and professional practice.
- In addition to teaching, the successful candidate is expected to contribute actively to the life of the department and campus community through participation in exhibitions, guest lectures, critiques, recruitment events, and other departmental activities. Minimum Requirements:
- Highly qualified candidates must possess a Ph.D. or master's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a closely related field, or demonstrate 10+ years of professional experience in a relevant design-based profession. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of contemporary interior design and/or architectural practices, along with the ability to effectively engage and mentor undergraduate students in a studio-based learning environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged Sitting: The ability to remain in a stationary position for 75-90% of the work day.
- Manual Dexterity: The "fine motor skills" required to operate a computer, mouse, and phone, or to handle paper files and office equipment.
- Visual Acuity: The ability to see and read a computer screen for extended periods
- Sedentary/Light Lifting: The ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
- Reaching & Bending: Occasionally needing to reach above head level or bend down to access low filing cabinets or plug in computer cables.
The requirements listed above (minimum and physical) are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Preference will be given to candidates with previous higher education teaching experience and professional experience in interior design, architecture, or a related field.
- The successful candidate should demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent time management and organizational abilities, and a commitment to student mentorship and collaborative learning. Experience developing project-based coursework and working with industry-standard design software is preferred.
