Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Payroll Analyst to support accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll processing. The position will focus on payroll administration, timecard auditing, payroll corrections, employee pay inquiries, data analysis, and reconciliation activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with employees, supervisors, HR teams, and departmental contacts to ensure payroll is processed accurately and in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and support high-volume bi-weekly payroll activities.
- Review and audit employee timecards for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies and timekeeping issues.
- Process payroll corrections and adjustments as required.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, time reporting, and payroll-related matters.
- Review payroll data and perform detailed reconciliations to identify discrepancies.
- Generate and maintain payroll reports and supporting documentation.
- Analyze payroll information using Microsoft Excel and other payroll systems.
- Maintain accurate and confidential payroll and employee records.
- Work with HR, supervisors, employees, and departmental contacts to resolve payroll issues.
- Ensure payroll transactions comply with established policies, procedures, and applicable requirements.
- Support payroll activities associated with collective bargaining agreements and organizational policies.
- Meet critical payroll processing deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Research and resolve complex payroll-related questions and discrepancies.
- Assist with payroll reporting, audits, and other payroll-related projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience processing high-volume payroll, including bi-weekly payroll cycles.
- Experience with Workday and/or PeopleSoft payroll systems.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience analyzing payroll data and performing reconciliations.
- Experience generating and reviewing payroll reports.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify discrepancies and independently research appropriate resolutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential employee and payroll information professionally.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting strict payroll deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with HR, employees, supervisors, and departmental contacts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in higher education, public-sector, or healthcare payroll environments.
- Experience interpreting and applying payroll policies and procedures.
- Experience working with collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience handling payroll audits, adjustments, reconciliations, and corrections.
- Experience responding to employee payroll and compensation inquiries.
