Public Works Team Member
Job Summary
The Public Works Team Member is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the City of Vine Grove's Public Works Department. Duties include maintenance and repair of the water distribution system, sewer collection system, city streets, and municipal properties. Responsibilities may vary daily based on operational needs and departmental priorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on utility infrastructure and equipment to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
- Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment as required for assigned tasks.
- Maintain city streets, roadways, street signs, rights-of-way, and municipal properties.
- Repair water and sewer lines and install new water service connections.
- Respond to utility system alarms, service disruptions, and equipment malfunctions; diagnose and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Monitor and record daily water usage, chlorine residual levels, and other operational data.
- Collect water samples and perform required testing and reporting procedures.
- Assist with emergency repairs and after-hours utility service calls.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in the field.
- Perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director or designated supervisor.
Qualifications
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, as well as visual demonstrations.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform strenuous physical labor.
- Must reside within 45 minutes of the Vine Grove city limits.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Experience in water distribution, sewer collection systems, construction, equipment operation, or related public works activities is preferred but not required.
Work Schedule
- Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Position is subject to after-hours call-outs, emergency response, and participation in a rotating on-call schedule.

Pay: $17.66 - $19.47 per hour
