About the Firm
JZ Law Group is a boutique litigation firm in the Wilshire corridor practicing real property, landlord-tenant, construction defect, commercial litigation, and appeals. Our cases go the distance: contested motions, dispositive briefing, trials, and appeals. Attorneys here work directly with clients and argue their own matters in court.
The Opportunity
We are hiring across experience levels, from newly admitted attorneys to senior litigators, and we match responsibility to ability. Newer attorneys get substantive cases with close supervision; experienced attorneys get independence and a seat in case strategy.
The firm is growing. We are merging with another firm and absorbing its book of business, which means a larger caseload, deeper practice areas, and room to advance for the people who join now. Senior attorneys have a clear path into management as we scale, and we promote from within.
How We Work
We are a small, collaborative team that backs each other up. We think good lawyering comes from focus and judgment rather than hours, so we keep expectations reasonable:
- 120 billable hours per month, well below large-firm expectations
- Your birthday off, every year
- A flexible, results-focused schedule and respect for your time outside the office
What You Will Do
- Manage real property and landlord-tenant litigation from intake through resolution
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, and settlement agreements
- Handle unlawful detainers (residential and commercial), habitability, quiet title, and related disputes
- Research and write court-ready briefs
- Appear for hearings, law and motion, conferences, and trial
- Build case strategy with firm leadership
Who We Are Looking For
- Active membership in the California State Bar
- Civil litigation experience, newly admitted through senior (we calibrate the role accordingly)
- Comfort with, or eagerness to develop, motion practice, discovery, and court appearances
- Real estate or landlord-tenant experience is a plus, not a requirement
- Sharp research, writing, and analytical skills, with the organization to run multiple active matters
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is based on experience and qualifications. We ask for 120 billable hours per month; billables beyond that earns a bonus, paid monthly rather than held to year end.
- Health, vision, and dental insurance
- Monthly bonus for hours billed above the 120-hour baseline
- Hybrid schedule and paid time off
- Bar dues, CLE, and malpractice coverage paid by the firm
- Parking provided
- Direct mentorship and a clear path to advancement
Pay: $80,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Dental insurance
- Health insurance
- Paid time off
