Join Our Team
South Portland Housing Authority is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Technician I to help maintain safe, clean, and well-functioning housing communities. In this role, you will perform a variety of maintenance, repair, cleaning, and grounds-related duties across Authority properties. This is an essential position that may be called upon during weather events or other urgent situations.
Pay Range
$24.00-30.00 per hour, based on experience.
Schedule
Flexible schedule Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with on-call rotation approximately once every 7 to 9 weeks.
What You’ll Do

Complete planned and corrective maintenance repairs for buildings, systems, and grounds.

Perform general plumbing, carpentry, drywall, masonry, painting, and touch-up work.

Prepare vacant units for new residents through deep cleaning and general repair work.

Help keep housing units safe, sanitary, and in good operating condition.

Operate and maintain equipment in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.

Read and respond to work-related communications and assist with other duties as needed.
Requirements:
What We’re Looking For

High school diploma or GED preferred.

At least 3 years of experience in general maintenance, repairs, or one or more skilled trades.

Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and general building systems maintenance.

Ability to troubleshoot problems, manage time effectively, and work independently.

Strong communication skills and a professional, responsive approach when interacting with residents.

Experience with snow removal or grounds equipment and knowledge of HVAC systems are a plus.

Valid state driver’s license required.

Ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
Work Environment

Work takes place in residential housing settings and outdoors in all weather conditions.

This role regularly requires lifting up to 50 pounds and moving appliances or other heavy items when needed.

The position involves walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs, and accessing cellars or attics.

This is an essential position and may require response during emergencies, storms, or urgent property needs.
