Summary: Reporting to the Transportation Director, the School Bus Monitor and Driver assists children being transported to and from the Early Learning and School Age Programs and maintains order on the bus. During the school year the daily schedule is approximately 7:00 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supports the morning and afternoon transportation of children as required by providing driving or monitoring services
Driver Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides morning and afternoon transportation of children from consistent designated destination points and field trips as scheduled.
- Establishes good working relationships with the children, parents, and other staff
- Completes daily inspection of the vehicle
- Maintains a safe and sanitary vehicle, immediately reporting to supervisor any issues
- Maintains a safe and calm environment in the bus
- With the Bus Monitor, ensures children are properly secured in seats and models appropriate language and interactions with children, staff, and parents
Bus Monitor Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists children on and off the bus in a safe manner
- Ensures all passengers remain properly restrained while riding the bus
- Maintains order and behavior of children on the bus so the driver will not be distracted from safe driving
- Maintains a positive and calm attitude
- Completes daily attendance logs for children when arriving and exiting the bus
- Releases children only to those listed on the Child Release Form, and requires identification from any unknown or new person on the list
- Notifies the Transportation Director of concerns regarding children's health, behavior, or emotional state
- Checks the bus to assure there are no children remaining on the bus at the end of each route
- Perform other duties as required

- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to maintain order on the bus while children are being transported
- Ability to assist children on and off the bus at proper stops in a safe, orderly manner
- Ability to establish good working relationships with the children, parents, bus driver and other staff
- Well organized and able to maintain bus records
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
Education/Experience
- Prior experience as a School Bus Monitor and/or Driver and working with children preferred.
- 7D driver's certificate preferred but not required.

Compensation & Benefits
- $17.50 to 21.00 an hour depending on experience. If you are open to driving the bus and have a 7D license, or are willing to get one (we will pay for it), you will get a $1.00 differential the hours you drive.
