Duties
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans.
- Assist with chairside procedures such as applying fluoride treatments, sealants, and taking dental radiographs (medical imaging).
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong oral health.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support infection control protocols by practicing aseptic techniques and adhering to sterilization procedures to safeguard patient and staff health.
- Collaborate with dentists in pediatric dentistry and general dentistry settings, providing four-handed dentistry for efficient patient flow.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental software systems such as Eaglesoft and Dentrix for documentation review and medical coding.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control standards.
- Experience in pediatric dentistry, pediatrics, and general dentistry environments with a focus on patient care.
- Skilled in taking vital signs, medical imaging, and performing patient assessment to ensure comprehensive care.
- Excellent chairside assisting skills combined with a thorough understanding of aseptic techniques and infection prevention practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages while demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations, medical records management, documentation review processes, and EMR systems to ensure compliance and accuracy.
