The County Clerk Deputy I is responsible for assisting customers of the Sevier County Clerk’s office in person and/or by mail, fax, email, or phone. The primary areas of responsibility include vehicle title registration and/or renewals, marriage licenses, business licenses, notary bonds, and other services that fall within the scope of the Sevier County Clerk’s office. This position performs customer services functions, processes documentation, receives payments, and prepares correspondences. Job performance for this position will be evaluated by the County Clerk and County Clerk Chief Deputy. Evaluations are based on the accuracy and efficiency of daily transactions, decision-making skills, interpersonal relationships, and the quality of support provided to the County Clerk’s office.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assists customers by answering questions in person and/or by mail, fax, email, or phone; provides information about the services of the County Clerk’s office and makes referrals to the appropriate office in a courteous and professional manner.Processes title applications for vehicles, boats, RVs, motorcycles, and other types of vehicles for residents of Sevier County and for individuals relocating from another county, state, or country; renews registrations. Assists customers with title rejection letters, insurance letters, or other correspondence from the State of Tennessee. Issues handicap placards, plates, or stickers upon receipt of proper documentation. Completes title application paperwork from dealerships or other parties received in mail or in person. Issues marriage licenses; collects fees; processes online requests for copies; processes returned marriage license documents; Assists customers with questions regarding errors on marriage licenses and certificates and refers them to the State of Tennessee as necessary. Assists customers with questions concerning minimal and standard business licenses. Issues new business licenses, collects fee, and gives contact information for State of Tennessee (TNTAP) if applicable; educates new business owner(s) on business license classifications; collects renewal fees for minimal business licenses.Assists customers with establishing notary designation, commission date, and stamp pick-up date (if applicable) and collects fees; processes online notaries and files documents.Assists customers with notary renewals, commission date, and stamp pick-up date (if applicable) and collects fees.Assists customers with Notary Authentication (only for Sevier County notaries).Completes title applications for mobile homes and issues mobile home installer stickers if requested. Locates Public Records and issues certified documents when appropriate.Processes incoming mail and distributes as necessary to departments.Enters information into the computer and updates information as needed. Prepares letters, forms, and other documents; seals documents (with County Clerk’s seal) when necessary. Balances cash drawer at end of each day according to the procedure set forth by the County Clerk.Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word.Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.Visual acuity at a level to include close, color, depth perception, and peripheral vision as well as the ability to adjust focus is required for viewing computer terminals, analyzing data, reading extensively, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work assigned, with or without correction.WORK ENVIRONMENTOperates in a professional office environment with moderate noise requiring routine use of standard office equipment including computer, phones, etc. Occasional work in outdoor weather conditions is possible. General hours are Monday through Friday from 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM; Saturday work is required one to two times per quarter; travel to satellite offices and reliable transportation are required. OFFICE STATEMENTThe essential duties of the Sevier County Clerk’s Office include, but are not limited to: Beer Board, Business License, County Commission, Marriage License, Notary, Passport, Pawn Broker License, Probate, and Title and Registration for motor vehicle, boat and manufactured homes. Sevier County Clerk’s Office employees are responsible to effectively communicate all services provided by the office. Each employee is required to know the general functions of local government and the policies set forth by the County Commission. Employees are encouraged to further their education through training when available through the County and/or by the State of Tennessee.
