Laboratory Technician
Position Overview
Bay Point Laboratories is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support daily laboratory operations within a regulated cannabis testing environment. This role is responsible for assisting in sample preparation, laboratory workflow execution, and maintaining operational efficiency in accordance with Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) regulations and ISO 17025 quality standards.
The Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that samples are prepared, handled, and processed accurately and efficiently, directly supporting the laboratory’s ability to meet turnaround time (TAT) targets and maintain regulatory compliance. This position requires strong attention to detail, adherence to SOPs, and the ability to operate in a structured, high-throughput laboratory setting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Sample Preparation & Laboratory Support
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting analytical testing by preparing samples in accordance with laboratory SOPs and regulatory requirements. This includes: (1) receiving and preparing cannabis samples for testing, including homogenization, weighing, extraction, and aliquoting; (2) ensuring that all sample preparation procedures are performed consistently and in accordance with validated methods; (3) maintaining sample integrity throughout preparation processes; and (4) organizing and staging samples for analysis by Chemists.
Laboratory Workflow Execution
The Laboratory Technician supports the efficient movement of samples through the laboratory to maintain throughput and turnaround time objectives. Responsibilities include: (1) assisting in the coordination of sample queues and workflow prioritization; (2) ensuring that samples are processed in accordance with laboratory schedules and testing priorities; (3) supporting Chemists by preparing materials, reagents, and equipment needed for analysis; and (4) maintaining clear communication with laboratory staff regarding sample status and workflow progress.
Data Entry & LIMS Support
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for accurate documentation and data entry within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This includes: (1) logging sample preparation activities and associated data; (2) ensuring accurate tracking of sample status throughout the preparation process; (3) maintaining traceability between sample IDs, Chain of Custody (COC) documentation, and laboratory records; and (4) supporting data integrity by verifying entries for completeness and accuracy.
Quality Control & Compliance Support
The Laboratory Technician plays a key role in supporting the laboratory’s quality management system. Responsibilities include: (1) following all applicable SOPs, quality control procedures, and regulatory requirements; (2) supporting quality assurance activities such as equipment checks, calibration support, and documentation; (3) identifying and reporting deviations, inconsistencies, or nonconformances; and (4) maintaining compliance with DCC regulations and ISO 17025 standards.
Laboratory Maintenance & Organization
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and operational laboratory environment. This includes: (1) cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment and workspaces; (2) managing consumables and assisting with inventory tracking; (3) ensuring proper storage of samples, reagents, and materials; and (4) supporting general laboratory upkeep to ensure efficient and safe operations.
Laboratory Safety
The Laboratory Technician must adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and procedures. This includes: (1) proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and biological materials; (2) use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); (3) compliance with safety programs, including IIPP and hazard communication requirements; and (4) reporting any safety hazards, incidents, or concerns promptly.
Required Qualifications
Candidates for the Laboratory Technician role must possess the educational background, technical competency, and attention to detail required to perform work within a regulated cannabis testing laboratory environment. In alignment with Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) expectations, candidates must: (1) hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a closely related scientific field; (2) demonstrate hands-on laboratory experience, preferably within an analytical testing or regulated laboratory environment; (3) possess working knowledge of fundamental laboratory techniques, including sample preparation, handling, and basic analytical procedures; (4) exhibit strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation skills necessary to maintain compliance with laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality management systems; and (5) demonstrate the ability to follow detailed instructions and execute tasks consistently within a structured, compliance-driven environment.
Technical Skills & Competencies
The ideal candidate will demonstrate: (1) basic knowledge of laboratory practices and sample handling techniques; (2) familiarity with laboratory equipment and tools used in sample preparation; (3) experience with or ability to learn Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS); (4) strong organizational and documentation skills; and (5) the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory environment.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
The Laboratory Technician role requires the ability to perform physical tasks in a laboratory setting. This includes: (1) the ability to stand for extended periods; (2) the ability to lift and move sample materials and supplies (up to 50 pounds); (3) the ability to work in a laboratory environment involving chemical handling and controlled processes; and (4) adherence to all PPE and biosafety requirements, as needed.

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
