Position Overview
The Ophthalmic Scribe & Claims Specialist plays a dual role in ensuring both clinical and administrative excellence. This position supports physicians by accurately documenting clinical encounters through our AI-driven scribing technology, while also assisting the billing department in preparing and validating claims for submission. This position is cross trained in in-clinic guiding and patient work up’s. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and passionate about the intersection of patient care and healthcare administration.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Scribing
- Accurately document patient encounters in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) during examinations and procedures using AI-assisted tools.
- Record physician-patient interactions including medical history, exam findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and procedures.
- Maintain well-organized and precise patient records.
- Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines and all confidentiality standards.
Claims Preparation & Billing Support
- Translate provider documentation into appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and modifier codes for billing.
- Build and review claims in the EHR/practice management system (DrChrono).
- Audit encounter documentation for completeness to ensure accurate and timely claims submission.
- Collaborate with the billing team to resolve coding discrepancies or incomplete records.
- Assist with claim submission, correction, and follow-up as required.
In-Clinic Guide and Patient work-up Support
- Cross train and be a qualified Ideal Eye Surgery Patient Guide
- Run testing equipment and perform detailed ophthalmic patient work-ups
Collaboration & Support
- Partner closely with providers, technicians, and billing personnel to maintain a smooth workflow between clinical operations and the revenue cycle.
- Provide constructive feedback to providers regarding documentation requirements to support accurate coding and reimbursement.
Requirements:
- In-office/remote hybrid role
- Support clinic staff in-office as needed
- Attend meetings and training in-office as needed
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a medical or ophthalmic scribe and/or billing specialist preferred.
- Familiarity with ophthalmic terminology, EHR systems (preferably DrChrono), and medical coding.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and confidentiality.
- Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
