Position Duties:
Under the supervision of a Senior Field Engineer, perform structural observation of the structural system for conformance to approved VCA design documents at significant construction stages. Routinely visit job sites, prepare structural observation reports, respond to requests for information (RFI) from contractors and/or architects. Review shop drawings in conjunction with design engineers and VCA Construction Administration staff for wood-frame and concrete structures for civil engineering projects in various stages of construction, including wraps (wood/slab on grade), podiums (top-level concrete deck) mixed-use retail and residential structures, single-family dwellings and other structures, including concrete multi-level parking garages. Communicate with subcontractors, framers, deputy inspectors and city inspectors regarding field issues. Recommend creative solutions to architects and field superintendents to resolve jobsite issues and facilitate efficiency in job-site team activities, ensuring completion on schedule and within budget. Attend meetings and develop good relationships with contractors and client representatives. Assist the Principal and Project Manager with construction administration tasks, including handling submittals, writing observation reports and preparing structural calculations during construction. May travel daily to job sites (less than 20%).

Preferred Background:
Education and Professional Engineer License: BS in Civil Engineering is preferred, or possess related or equivalent education, plus two (2) years of field observation. Must meet State of California Professional Engineer (PE) licensing requirements
Experience requirements: a minimum of two (2) years that must include: 1) two (2) years performing structural observation & preparing reports for structural, design or code problems and/or deficiencies; and 2) possess two (2) years’ experience providing solutions.
Other: Possess a demonstrated knowledge of building code requirements.
