Overview
The New York Structural Biology Center has an immediate opening for a beamline scientist to join the NYX beamline team at sector 19-ID at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The new scientist will be employed by NYSBC and stationed at the NYX beamline at NSLS-II.
NYSBC's X-ray Crystallography Department operates beamline NYX, designed and constructed by NYSBC at Brookhaven National Laboratory’s NSLS-II synchrotron. Staff in this department collect diffraction data from crystals of biological molecules to determine their 3-dimensional structures.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include user support, scheduling, academic and proprietary data collection, assisting users with data processing and structure solution, equipment validation and maintenance, ensuring consistent and reliable beamline operations and software development.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- B.S. or equivalent degree in biophysics, physics, chemistry or related field
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- The ability to interact effectively in a team environment with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, technical staff, and users
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Ph.D. degree in biophysics, chemistry, or related field
- Three years of prior experience in data acquisition for macromolecular structure determination, including the use of synchrotron radiation
- Strong publication record in diffraction analysis
- Experience with X-ray optics, X-ray detectors, and/or software for crystallographic computing
- Python programming experience
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
