Electrical Hardware Design Engineer
Position Summary
The Electrical Hardware Design Engineer is responsible for the design and development of electronic hardware and circuit cards based on defined system and product requirements. This position takes technical requirements and translates them into functional electronic designs, including circuit design, schematic development, component selection, analysis, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with electrical hardware design and circuit board-level electronics, rather than primarily systems-level electrical engineering experience.
Key Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience with electrical hardware and circuit board-level design.
- Experience translating technical or system requirements into electronic hardware designs.
- Strong knowledge of analog and/or digital circuit design, analysis, and troubleshooting.
- Experience developing schematics and supporting circuit card/PCB development.
- Experience with electrical circuit simulation and analysis tools.
- Familiarity with CAD/EDA software used for electronic schematic capture and circuit board development.
- Experience with electrical testing equipment and hardware validation.
- Understanding of electronic manufacturing and circuit card production processes is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Hardware & Circuit Design

Design electrical and electronic hardware, circuits, components, and products based on technical requirements and specifications.
- Translate system and product requirements into detailed electronic hardware and circuit card designs.
- Develop electrical schematics, diagrams, specifications, and supporting design documentation.
- Select electronic components and develop designs that meet functional, performance, reliability, safety, and cost requirements.
- Support the development and manufacture of circuit cards and electronic assemblies.
- Develop and test prototypes to verify functionality, performance, and safety.
Analysis & Troubleshooting

Analyze electrical circuits and electronic hardware to evaluate performance against design requirements.
- Perform engineering calculations and utilize simulation tools to model and validate circuit behavior.
- Identify and troubleshoot hardware and circuit-level issues.
- Perform root-cause analysis and develop effective technical solutions.
- Recommend and implement design improvements based on analysis and test results.
Testing & Validation

Develop and execute electrical hardware testing and validation activities.
- Utilize electrical test equipment to evaluate circuit and component performance.
- Analyze test results and determine whether designs meet established requirements.
- Support troubleshooting and corrective actions during prototype, development, and manufacturing phases.
Technical Documentation

Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including:
- Electrical schematics
- Circuit diagrams
- Design specifications
- Engineering calculations and analyses
- Test procedures and reports
- Design changes and revision documentation
- Maintain accurate records of design modifications and project progress.
Project & Cross-Functional Support

Support electrical engineering projects from initial requirements through design, prototype, testing, and implementation.
- Coordinate engineering activities with cross-functional teams to meet project schedules and technical requirements.
- Collaborate with mechanical, software, systems, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines to integrate electronic hardware into larger systems and products.
- Communicate technical issues, project status, and design recommendations to engineering teams and stakeholders.
Compliance & Safety

Ensure electrical and electronic designs comply with applicable engineering standards, codes, regulations, and internal requirements.
- Identify potential design risks and implement appropriate corrective or preventative measures.
- Support safe design practices throughout hardware development and testing.
Research & Continuous Improvement

Stay current with advancements in electronic hardware, components, circuit design methodologies, and development tools.
- Research and recommend technologies or design approaches that improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability, or efficiency.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience designing electrical or electronic hardware at the circuit board/circuit card level.
- Knowledge of electrical circuit design, analysis, and simulation.
- Ability to develop and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical hardware and circuit-level issues.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience with PCB/circuit card design and development.
- Experience with electronic schematic capture and PCB design tools.
- Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, power supplies, and other electrical test equipment.
- Experience with electronic hardware prototyping, debugging, verification, and validation.
- Familiarity with circuit card manufacturing, assembly, and related production processes.
- Experience taking an electronic hardware design from requirements through design, prototype, test, and production.
