Cavanaugh Photography – Associate Director of Photography
Cavanaugh Photography, a premier studio specializing in school and volume photography, is seeking an Associate Director of Photography to serve as the right-hand leader to the Director of Photography. This key leadership role will oversee daily photography operations, manage the photography team, and ensure the highest standards of quality and efficiency across all shoots.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as the primary lead studio photographer and maintain the highest level of photographic excellence in studio and on-location sessions
Manage scheduling for the full-time photography team
Manage scheduling for contract photographers to meet seasonal demand
Recruit, onboard, and manage contract photographers
Lead, mentor, and develop Photographer / Team Leads and staff photographers
Oversee studio and on-location photography operations, including school pictures, family portraits, senior sessions, candid events, and sporting events
Uphold and elevate brand standards for lighting, posing, and image quality
Collaborate with the Director of Photography on workflow improvements, team training, and strategic initiatives
Serve as a professional representative of Cavanaugh Photography with school administrators, clients, and partners
Key Qualifications:
At least 7–10 years of professional photography experience, with significant expertise in school and volume photography
Strong leadership experience managing photographers and/or contract talent
Proven ability to lead studio photography operations
Experience photographing high school seniors, family portraits, candid events, and sporting events
Expert knowledge of studio lighting and portrait photography techniques
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with school administrators and represent the studio with excellence
Strong organizational skills with experience in scheduling and team coordination
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position that includes both studio and on-location work. Most shifts are Monday through Friday, but flexibility is required for evenings, weekends, and early mornings—especially during peak school picture season in the fall.
