Gifting Experience Coordinator — Independent Contractor
Maui’s Finest Gifts | Kihei, Maui
Independent Contractor | Approximately 16–19 hours per week
About the Role
Maui’s Finest Gifts is looking for a personable, highly organized and creative Gifting Experience Coordinator to provide independent services supporting our Kihei gift shop and gifting operations.
We are a highly rated Maui small business with hundreds of five-star customer reviews, and maintaining that reputation for exceptional service is extremely important to us. The Gifting Experience Coordinator plays a direct role in upholding that standard through every customer interaction, gift created and delivery completed.
This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who genuinely enjoys working with people but is equally comfortable working independently. Much of the work involves creating and delivering gifts on your own, managing inventory and communicating directly with customers and vendors. We are looking for someone who is self-directed, resourceful and comfortable making good decisions without constant oversight. If you enjoy taking ownership of your work, finding solutions and keeping things moving, this role offers a great deal of independence.
Your primary responsibilities will include creating and delivering gifts, providing exceptional customer service, managing and ordering inventory, coordinating with our local vendors, and creating social media content approximately once a week.
Because we are a small business, communication and follow-through are extremely important. You’ll regularly communicate with vendors regarding products and orders, assist customers in the shop, and call customers when questions or clarifications arise regarding their orders. We’re looking for someone who communicates warmly and professionally and takes initiative when something needs to be handled.
What You'll Do
- Create beautiful gift baskets and other gift presentations with excellent attention to detail
- Provide warm, knowledgeable and professional service to customers in the shop
- Answer customer questions and contact customers by phone when order details need clarification
- Process customer purchases and orders accurately
- Deliver gifts throughout Maui safely, professionally and on time
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate product reordering
- Communicate directly with our local vendors regarding inventory, orders and product availability
- Receive and organize incoming merchandise and maintain accurate inventory
- Keep the shop organized, attractive and ready for customers
- Create simple, engaging social media content approximately once per week
- Assist with candle production and other hands-on projects as needed
- Independently manage responsibilities and find practical solutions when questions or unexpected situations arise
What We're Looking For
You may be a great fit if you are:
- Excellent with people. Exceptional customer service is a must.
- A confident and professional communicator, both in person and on the phone
- Self-directed and comfortable working independently for significant portions of the day
- Resourceful and able to solve everyday problems without needing constant direction
- Highly organized and able to keep track of inventory, orders and multiple priorities
- Dependable and strong at following through on commitments
- Someone who exercises good judgment and takes ownership of their responsibilities
- Creative, with a good eye for presentation and an interest in gifting and merchandising
- Comfortable moving between customer service, hands-on creative work, deliveries and administrative responsibilities
- Comfortable using basic business technology and learning new systems
- Comfortable using—or open to learning—AI tools to improve productivity, organization and day-to-day problem-solving
- Interested in contributing ideas and helping a small local business grow
Previous experience in retail, hospitality, inventory management, customer service, operations or a similar role is helpful, but we place a great deal of value on reliability, communication, initiative, good judgment and the ability to work independently.
Driving Requirements
Because local deliveries are part of the services provided, you must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, current vehicle insurance and a current Hawaiʻi vehicle safety inspection. You should also be comfortable lifting up to approximately 30 lbs.
Compensation
- $20/hour during the first-month initial trial engagement
- $23/hour beginning in month two, plus tips
- The first month is intended as a trial period for both Maui’s Finest Gifts and the contractor to determine whether the working relationship is a good mutual fit.
- After six months, the service rate may be reviewed and adjusted by mutual agreement based on performance, reliability, level of responsibility and the needs of the business, with the opportunity for additional rate increases over time.
- Additional monthly performance-based bonuses may be available when agreed-upon business goals are achieved.
Additional Earnings
For each delivery completed, contractors receive a portion of the delivery charge, approximately $9.50–$14.50 per order, in addition to the hourly service rate.
Additional perk: 25% discount on in-store merchandise.
Independent Contractor Engagement
This opportunity is for an independent contractor, not a W-2 employee. The contractor provides services to Maui’s Finest Gifts as an independent service provider and is responsible for their own taxes, insurance and other obligations associated with independent contractor work. A completed W-9 is required before services begin.
The engagement is expected to average approximately 16–19 hours per week, generally across four days, with service times coordinated in advance based on the contractor’s availability and the needs of the business.
Contractors are responsible for submitting an invoice every two weeks for services performed and any applicable delivery earnings.
