Youth Director – Middle School/High School
Part-Time – 15 hours/week
Job Summary
The Youth Director will provide spiritually formative, relational ministry to MPC's middle and high school students. Grounded in Scripture, centered on Christ, and rooted in the life of the church, this person will help young people grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with the broader church community.
The ideal candidate is a person of mature Christian faith who genuinely enjoys being with young people, is able to build trusting relationships with students and families, and is committed to creating a welcoming and engaging environment where youth can ask questions, explore faith, serve others, and grow as followers of Jesus.
The Youth Director will work collaboratively with the pastor, church staff, parents, volunteers, and other ministry leaders to develop a healthy and sustainable youth ministry.
Primary Responsibilities
Relational Ministry
- Build authentic, caring relationships with middle and high school students and serve as a trusted Christian adult and spiritual mentor.
- Pray regularly for the youth of the congregation and encourage students in their faith, questions, relationships, and daily lives.
- Develop relationships with parents and families and communicate regularly about youth ministry opportunities.
- Create an environment where students feel known, welcomed, valued, and safe.
Sunday Youth Ministry
- Lead the weekly middle/high school Sunday School class following worship.
- Prepare and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate lessons and discussions that connect Scripture and Christian faith with students' everyday lives.
Youth Activities & Community Building
- Plan and lead regular youth group activities, creating opportunities for fellowship, fun, spiritual growth, and inviting friends.
- Plan and coordinate one annual youth retreat.
- Provide opportunities for youth to participate in service within the church and the broader community.
Intergenerational & Church Life
- Collaborate with the Children's Ministry Team in planning intergenerational events and family activities.
- Collaborate with the Choir Director and Senior Pastor in planning and leading an annual Youth Sunday in June.
Outreach & Community Connections
- Build relationships with schools, community organizations, and other local youth-serving ministries as appropriate.
- Look for opportunities to connect with youth in the broader community and welcome new students into MPC's youth ministry.
Ministry Leadership & Collaboration
- Work closely with the Senior Pastor and other church staff to ensure that youth ministry supports and complements the overall mission of MPC.
- Recruit, encourage, and support adult volunteers who participate in youth ministry.
- Participate in appropriate staff meetings, ministry planning, and church activities.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and follow all church policies and safety procedures related to ministry with minors.
Qualifications & Experience
- A mature and growing Christian faith and a desire to help young people know and follow Jesus Christ.
- Experience working with middle school and/or high school students in a church, educational, camp, mentoring, or related setting.
- Experience leading Bible studies, small groups, Sunday School, or other faith-based gatherings.
- Strong relational and communication skills, with an ability to listen well and connect authentically with adolescents.
- Ability to work collaboratively with pastors, staff, parents, volunteers, and students.
- Dependability, creativity, flexibility, and good organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain appropriate professional and personal boundaries with minors.
- Successful completion of required background checks and church-required training.
