OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN
Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our growing eye care team. The Optometric Technician plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care by assisting doctors with examinations, performing preliminary testing, educating patients, and ensuring a smooth and efficient patient experience.
Starting pay is $17.50 per hour, with opportunities for higher starting wages based on experience and qualifications.
No prior optical experience is required for the right candidate; we are willing to train individuals with strong customer service skills and a desire to learn.
Essential Responsibilities
- Welcome and prepare patients for their eye examinations.
- Obtain patient medical histories and update records accurately.
- Perform preliminary testing, including: visual acuity, auto-refraction, tonometry, retinal imaging, visual field testing, and other diagnostic testing as directed.
- Assist doctors during patient examinations as needed.
- Accurately document findings in electronic health records (EHR).
- Educate patients regarding recommended treatments, products, and services.
- Assist with contact lens training and education.
- Maintain exam rooms and testing equipment.
- Support front desk and optical team functions when needed.
- Provide outstanding customer service while creating a welcoming environment for every patient.
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred:
- Previous experience in optometry, ophthalmology, healthcare, or customer service.
- Familiarity with electronic health records.
- Knowledge of vision insurance plans.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Positive attitude and commitment to exceptional patient care.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to operate diagnostic equipment and computers.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
