JOB SUMMARY:
The Associate Director of High School Faith Formation is a full-time position responsible for High School Faith Formation,
which includes high school confirmation preparation. They coordinate all high school formation activities and events and
provide formation outreach to parents, the primary educators of faith for their high school youth. The Associate Director
of High School Faith Formation is a ministerial position within the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and must be a
practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Plan, direct, and implement High School faith formation programs and the Confirmation process for high school
youth in accordance with Archdiocesan Guidelines.
- Plan and implement ongoing Bible study, discipleship groups, social events, and youth group activities.
- Plan, direct and implement a High School Formation program which includes dynamic programs in conformity
with the Archdiocesan framework for Lifelong Faith Formation, while keeping in mind the eight components of
Youth Ministry (US Catholic Bishops’ Document “Renewing the Vision,” which calls for advocacy, catechesis,
community life, evangelization, justice and service, leadership development, pastoral care, prayer and worship).
- Work collaboratively with other parish ministries (e.g., the school) to ensure an integrated approach to all
catechetical efforts. Direct collaboration with the Associate Director of Middle School Faith Formation to ensure
that there is a cohesive Youth Ministry and support for both Middle School and High School Youth Ministry.
- Develop a comprehensive calendar including all aspects of the High School catechetical program and coordinate
with the parish’s master calendar
- Develop and implement intentional summer formation activities to foster involvement in the wider community.
- Establish ongoing relationships with Parish and Archdiocesan staff, as well as other area high school ministries;
participate actively in staff meetings and activities.
- Establish, train, manage, and consult with the High School Team to assist in planning and implementation
- Recruit, train, and support youth program volunteers and leaders in all youth formation programs.
- Prepare High School Faith Formation budget and oversee expenditures within Finance Council guidelines.
- Serve as point of contact and resource for all parish programs in the areas that touch on High School Faith
Formation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS/BA degree in Theology or related field or a Master’s degree in Theology preferred.
o Three to four years’ experience, preferably in parish ministry or catechesis, would be considered.
o Solid understanding of theology and the Roman Catholic tradition: Scripture, Moral Theology, Personal
Spirituality, Ecclesiology, Church History, Doctrine, Sacraments, Liturgy, and Worship, or any
combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background
- Working knowledge of Archdiocesan and National Catechetical Guidelines.
- Previous experience in High School Ministry or Teaching
