Middle School Drama Teacher (1-Year Parental Leave Replacement)

Position Overview:
Kennedy Middle School is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Middle School Drama Teacher to join the Fine and Performing Arts Department for a one-year parental leave replacement. The successful candidate will provide standards-based drama instruction that promotes creativity, collaboration, communication, and performance skills in a supportive and inclusive classroom environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to working with diverse learners and fostering student engagement through theater arts.
Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based drama instruction for middle school students

Teach foundational theater skills, including acting, improvisation, movement, voice, script analysis, and ensemble performance

Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment

Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners

Assess student progress using a variety of performance-based and classroom-based measures

Provide opportunities for students to develop confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills through drama

Maintain classroom materials, scripts, props, and instructional resources

Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the school community and Fine and Performing Arts Department
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Education, Drama, Theatre Arts, Performing Arts, or related field

Valid Massachusetts teaching license in Theatre/Drama or appropriate related licensure

Demonstrated knowledge of drama/theater instruction and middle school learners

Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills

Commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices
Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience teaching drama or theater at the middle or high school level

Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students

Experience directing or facilitating student performances or theater activities

Ability to build strong relationships with students and foster a collaborative classroom culture
