POLICE OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTION
Being a Police Officer involves responsibility for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, and the general enforcement of laws and ordinances. Duties normally consist of routine patrol, preliminary investigation, and traffic regulation.
Police officers also may be assigned duties as investigators, court security officers, crime prevention officers, accident investigators, firearms instructors, hostage negotiators, dog handlers, special response teams or other related duties. Work involves an element of personal danger. The employee must be able to exercise sound independent judgment under stress. Assignments may include work on special tasks which call upon specialized abilities and knowledge possessed by the officer. Work assignments can be general or specific and instructions are received from a supervisor who reviews work methods and results through reports, personal inspection and discussion.
Pay rates listed are effective as of 10/01/2025.
Step One is $21.00/hour ($48,972 annual for 2,184 hours plus holiday pay) for entry level or fewer than 12 months of FT sworn law enforcement experience.
Step Two is $22.50/hour ($52,470 annual for 2,184 hours plus holiday pay) for 13-24 months FT sworn law enforcement experience.
Step Three is $24.00/hour ($55,968 annual for 2,184 hours plus holiday pay) for more than two years of FT sworn law enforcement experience.
Step Four is $24.72/hour ($57,647 annual for 2,184 hours plus holiday pay) for more than three years of FT sworn law enforcement experience.
Steps Five and above are 3% annual.
