Summary
Performs a variety of paraprofessional accounting duties required to maintain the complex financial records of a middle school or middle school within a secondary school; enters and maintains transactions within computerized systems; produces reporting and financial statements; reconciles and reviews financial activity for compliance to rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; monitors budget allocations and provides assistance with financial forecasting.
Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate, supplemented by coursework in finance or accounting.

Two (2) years of experience in general office administration and accounting, some at a level requiring independent judgment.

Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.

Knowledge of general, paraprofessional accounting practices and modern office practices.

Familiarity with applicable regulations, legislations, policies, and procedures.

Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting.

Ability to input transactions with attention to detail and in adherence to timelines.

Ability to evaluate financial and budget data for accuracy and compliance.

Ability to provide positive customer service and to develop and maintain effective working relationships with culturally diverse students, families, school staff, and community members.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Accounting experience in a school environment.
Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Oversees and carries out the finance and accounting requirements of the School Finance Handbook.

Enters financial data and records of transactions into computerized systems in accordance with accounting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Orders major supplies, equipment, or textbooks using divisionwide computer systems to process and monitor transactions.

Maintains and tracks accounts involving various and complex entries, such as travel expenses.

Classifies transactions involving the distribution of expenditures among many classes of accounts.

Supervises and assists with the receipt and deposit of funds from various sources.

Analyzes and applies complex rules and procedures.

Implements work methods for accounting duties to build processing efficiencies.

Compiles and retrieves monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual totals, reports, and financial statements.

Reconciles all financial transactions monthly; oversees budget compliance for programs and grants.

Reviews past expense history and assists the school-based administrators with budget forecasting.

Provides guidance and support regarding financial information and documentation to school-based employees and central office staff.

Carries out all accounting functions for a special fund or community-use activity.

Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
