Gifted Education / Special Education Teacher - Grades K-9
We are seeking an experienced and creative educator for a combined Gifted Education and Special Education teaching position serving students in grades K-9. Approximately 75% of the role will focus on gifted education, with the remaining 25% dedicated to special education support.
Gifted Education Responsibilities
The teacher will provide weekly gifted programming for elementary students through engaging, higher-level learning experiences. Instruction may include project-based learning, content acceleration, novel studies, Socratic discussions, STEAM activities, and other enrichment opportunities.
For middle and high school students, the teacher will provide approximately one hour of gifted support each week. This time will function primarily as enrichment and academic advising, helping students deepen and extend their learning through Bloom’s Taxonomy and other gifted education models.
The program will also emphasize executive functioning, leadership development, collaboration, and helping gifted students become positive role models within the school community.
Additional responsibilities will include:
* Planning and facilitating annual gifted education meetings with parents
* Supporting the development and implementation of gifted education plans
* Communicating with families and school staff regarding student progress
* Developing meaningful enrichment opportunities based on individual student needs and interests
Special Education Responsibilities
The special education portion of the position will focus primarily on supporting students within general education science and social studies courses, including history and geography.
The teacher will collaborate with school staff to:
* Provide inclusion and academic support to students with disabilities
* Monitor student progress toward IEP goals
* Submit progress updates during each school reporting period
* Gather current performance information from general education teachers before IEP meetings
* Assist with documentation and preparation related to students’ present levels of academic and functional performance
The school’s special education administrator and/or transition specialist will provide assistance with disability-related IEP meetings and compliance responsibilities.
