Job Title: Master Electrician – Solar & Electrical Systems (City of Chicago Licensed)
Pay: $100k-$120k
Job Description:
Rethink Electric is seeking a highly skilled Master Electrician to lead and supervise residential and commercial solar and electrical projects throughout the Chicagoland area. The ideal candidate must possess a valid City of Chicago Department of Buildings Supervising Electrician License, City of Elgin Supervising Electrician License, and City of Aurora Standard Master Electrician’s license and have extensive knowledge of electrical systems, NEC code compliance, and photovoltaic (PV) installations.
As a Master Electrician, you will oversee crews, ensure code-compliant installations, coordinate inspections, and provide technical leadership on all assigned projects while maintaining the highest standards of safety and workmanship.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and oversee installation crews on commercial solar projects
- Install and supervise installation of roof-mounted and ground-mounted solar systems including PV standoffs, racking, wiring, grounding, optimizers, inverters, and electrical panels
- Perform and oversee electrical wiring of solar array systems (DC and AC)
- Install raceways and conduit systems in commercial applications including rooftops, groundmounts, and utility interconnections
- Perform conduit bending, wire pulling, and layout according to engineered plan sets
- Complete and supervise main service panel upgrades, meter replacements, disconnect installations, and utility interconnections
- Ensure all work complies with NEC requirements, local AHJ requirements, and project drawings and specifications
- Coordinate inspections with utilities and municipal inspectors
- Troubleshoot electrical and solar system issues in the field
- Maintain job site safety and enforce OSHA standards and company safety procedures
- Mentor and train apprentice electricians and field crews
Qualifications:
- Required: Valid City of Chicago Department of Buildings Supervising Electrician License
- 5+ years of commercial electrical experience
- Previous solar PV installation experience required
- Strong understanding of NEC codes with emphasis on commercial PV systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line drawings and construction documents
- Experience with service upgrades, panel installations, and utility interconnections
- Skilled with electrical testing equipment, power tools, and hand tools
- Strong leadership and project management skills
- OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain
- Ability to climb ladders and work safely on rooftops
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, push, pull, and stand for extended periods
