Job Summary
The plumber is responsible for performing responsible skilled work in the installation and repair of plumbing lines, fixtures, pumps, boiler and equipment. The plumber is directly responsible to the Coordinator of Maintenance and Operations.
Essential Job Functions
Performs tasks in connection with the fabrication, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems.
Performs the full range of journeyman level plumbing tasks including estimating material requirements; pipefittings, and fixtures in the sizes, types, or lengths needed.
Locates and marks spots for openings through which pipes are to pass or in which equipment will be installed.
Places and connects air, natural or manufactured gas, sewage, and water fixtures and facilities such as hydrants, water mains, water closets, lavatories, showers, sinks, dish-washing machines, unit gas heaters, stoves, and air compression equipment.
Clears difficult stoppages in drain pipes.
Prepares boilers for inspection and performs maintenance as required.
Answers all heating and plumbing HVAC complaints.
Advises supervisor on cost estimates for repairs.
Maintains liaison with suppliers supporting functional areas of responsibility to insure that quality products are purchased.
Assists in the development of a preventive maintenance program.
Establishes appropriate safe practices for himself and personnel in schools and personnel working with him at job sites.
Shovels snow and spreads chemicals.
Performs other related duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Any combination of education and experience to completion of high school or vocational school.
Experience: Any combination of education and experience to completion of high school or vocational school.
Certification and License: Virginia Driver's License; Journeyman's Plumber License

Demonstrates an understanding of the job tasks.
Possesses general knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the installation and repair of sanitary plumbing fixtures and related lines and equipment.
Possesses general knowledge of the operation and maintenance of steam heating equipment.
Possesses thorough knowledge of applicable plumbing codes.
Demonstrates ability to make time and material estimates.
Demonstrates ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Demonstrates the ability to repair or replace lines and fixtures.
Possesses skill in the use of plumbing and pipe fitting tools.
