Duties
- Assist veterinarians with medical procedures, including surgical assistance, anesthesia monitoring, and diagnostic radiology.
- Prepare animals for examinations and treatments through proper restraint and animal handling techniques.
- Perform laboratory work such as blood draws, phlebotomy, and sample processing to support diagnostic efforts.
- Operate medical equipment including X-ray machines, anesthesia systems, and laboratory analyzers with precision.
- Administer medications and vaccinations accurately following veterinary protocols.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infections and ensure patient safety.
- Support emergency medicine efforts by providing critical care, vascular access, IV insertion, and animal catheterization when needed.
- Keep detailed records using veterinary software, including patient histories, treatment plans, and diagnostic results.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners about pet care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up needs.
- Assist in radiology diagnostics by positioning animals correctly for X-ray imaging and interpreting basic results under supervision.
Skills
- Strong understanding of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, and anatomy essential for accurate patient care.
- Skilled in dental terminology and dental procedures.
- Proficient in laboratory techniques such as phlebotomy, diagnostic testing, and laboratory work to aid diagnosis.
- Experience with general anesthesia management, veterinary anesthesia monitoring, and sedation protocols.
- Capable of performing animal restraint confidently for various procedures including IV insertion and animal catheterization.
- Familiar with medical equipment operation including radiology equipment (X-ray), anesthesia machines, and laboratory analyzers.
- Knowledge of veterinary surgical assistance procedures to support operative teams effectively.
- Strong client communication skills to educate pet owners about pet care needs clearly and compassionately.
Minimum 1 year veterinary technician experience required. LVT not required but preferred.
Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
