General Description of Position Duties:
Harney Elementary is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to lead a K–5 Resource Teaching Position. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality instruction and support to students with a variety of needs in alignment with Indiana Article 7 and IDEA guidelines. This role requires strong collaboration with general education staff, related service providers, families, and paraprofessionals to ensure students receive individualized, meaningful, and inclusive educational opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned to student needs, goals, and state standards.
- Provide direct instruction in reading, math, and behavioral interventions.
- Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student independence and social-emotional growth.
- Use evidence-based practices, assistive technology, and differentiated instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and administrators to support inclusion and access to the general curriculum.
- Supervise and support paraprofessionals in carrying out instructional and behavioral interventions.
- Monitor and document student progress through data collection, assessments, and ongoing communication with families.
- Participate in case conferences, professional development, and staff meetings.
- Comply with all state and federal special education regulations, including Indiana Article 7 requirements.

- Ability to hear and listen to detailed information through oral communication.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
