Overview
Under the supervision of the Head Nurse, the Medical Assistant provides administrative and clinical support to the Juvenile Center’s medical department. The Medical Assistant assists with routine health services, maintains medical records, coordinates appointments, supports medical administration procedures as authorized, and assists in ensuring compliance with applicable juvenile detention standards, facility policies, and state regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Head Nurse with the daily operation of the medical department
- Assists with intake health screening documentation as directed by the Head Nurse
- Documents resident medical requests and ensures routine, urgent, and emergency concerns are communicated to licensed staff
- Coordinates resident medical appointments, specialty referrals, laboratory services, and follow-up care
- Maintains resident medical records in accordance with confidentiality requirements
- Assists with medication administration procedures as authorized by facility policy and under the supervision of licensed nursing staff
- Monitors medical supply inventory and assists with ordering, stocking, and maintaining medical equipment
- Assists with infection prevention practices and sanitation procedures within the medical department
- Communicates with detention staff regarding approved medical restrictions, appointments, and healthcare instructions
- Assists in maintaining compliance with Indiana juvenile detention standards, applicable health regulations, accreditation requirements, and facility policies
- Responds appropriately to medical emergencies and assisting licensed medical staff
- Maintains required documentation for resident medical encounters, appointments, and treatment plans
- Performs other duties assigned in support of resident health services
Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent certification preferred
- Experience in corrections, juvenile justice, behavioral health, primary care, or pediatrics preferred

Pay: $50,090.00 per year
