Role Overview:
This FULL-TIME Summer Academic Instructor position is located at Brooklyn and South Bronx Job Corps Centers, New York, NY, and is $33.65 per hour. Summer Academic Instructor will deliver standards-aligned academic instruction in core subject areas including Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies to students pursuing high school diplomas or equivalency credentials, and additional job duties may be assigned as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Instruction: Deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in core subject areas including Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.
- Differentiated Learning: Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic levels and learning needs of Job Corps students, incorporating technology and interactive teaching strategies.
- Classroom Management: Create a positive, structured classroom environment that promotes student accountability, motivation, and success.
- Curriculum & Credit Recovery: Utilize existing curriculum aligned with high school diploma and equivalency pathways, and support credit recovery and acceleration opportunities.
- Progress Monitoring: Conduct regular assessments to measure student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely student records, attendance, and performance data in compliance with Job Corps program requirements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Academic Managers, Counselors, and Career Technical Training staff to provide integrated, holistic student support.
- Professional Development: Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current New York State Teaching Certification required.
- Active employment with the New York City Department of Education strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of classroom teaching experience in a public-school setting.
- Experience working with at-risk youth, alternative education, or credit recovery programs highly preferred.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and instructional skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
- Commitment to helping young adults achieve academic and career success.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Standard hours of work Monday through Friday, with full-time and part-time schedules available.
- Travel may be required.
- Work is performed in a classroom/office environment with no exposure to hazardous conditions.
- Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing, and may require some stooping, lifting, or carrying objects of light weight.
