Mission Ranch is seeking a dependable and versatile Line Cook (Floater) to join our culinary team and support our restaurant operations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining efficient kitchen operations by providing flexible support across multiple kitchen areas as business needs require. Responsibilities may include food preparation, basic cooking, dishwashing, stocking, receiving deliveries, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and assisting culinary team members with daily operations.
This position is responsible for adapting to changing priorities, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, following recipes and food safety procedures, and supporting consistent quality and service standards throughout the kitchen. This position may be assigned to different workstations, shifts, or functions based on operational needs.
The ideal candidate has experience working in a professional kitchen environment, demonstrates a strong work ethic, and is willing to assist wherever needed. A successful Line Cook Floater thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented atmosphere and demonstrates flexibility, reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, sanitation, and exceptional guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare a variety of hot and cold menu items including meats, seafood, vegetables, starches, salads, dressings, soups, and sauces, following Mission Ranch’s recipes and quality standards
- Apply proper food preparation techniques such as slicing, dicing, frying, grilling, baking, roasting, poaching, and saucier methods
- Maintain proficiency in knife handling and kitchen equipment operation.
- Work and set up all assigned stations (prep, pantry, sauté, grill, hot line, and Sunday brunch), performing designated functions such as carving or omelet preparation
- Ensure all menu items are cooked, plated, and garnished with accuracy, quality, and consistency
- Monitor food freshness and rotate stock in coolers, dry storage, and prep areas to minimize waste and spoilage
- Maintain and properly store all kitchen equipment, ensuring all surfaces remain clean and in safe working conditions
- Immediately report any faulty equipment or unsafe conditions to the Chef or Sous Chef
- Train new kitchen staff in procedures, safety, and culinary standards
- Assist other cooks and departments as needed to promote teamwork and efficient service
- Communicate daily production updates with the Chef or Sous Chef and contribute ideas to improve food quality and presentation
- Comply with all Mission Ranch safety, health, and sanitation policies and procedures
Qualifications & Skills

Previous restaurant or kitchen experience preferred but not required

Education & Experience

High School diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience required

Minimum two (2) years of kitchen experience, experience in an equivalent position at a premier restaurant is a plus

Advanced hot/cold food cooking knowledge, proficient knife skills

Experience in standards of quality and production in the pantry, Sunday brunch, prep, and hot line stations

Basic understanding of portion control and waste reduction
