Job Summary
We are seeking an Entry Level Data Center Technician in, IN, with on-the-job (OT) availability to join our dynamic team. Shift: 10-11hour days, 6 days a week.
Duties
- Assist with the installation and configuration of network cabling, including Cat5, Cat6, and fiber optic cables, following schematics and industry standards such as NEC.
- Support the setup and maintenance of network hardware including Cisco routers, Juniper equipment, and Avaya telephony systems.
- Perform routine inspections and troubleshooting using diagnostic tools like ohmmeters and RF testers to identify issues with electrical or network components.
- Aid in the repair and replacement of computer hardware, electrical systems (AC/DC), and telecommunication equipment within data centers.
- Conduct cable management tasks such as wiring, labeling, and organizing low voltage cabling to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Assist with fiber splicing, testing, and troubleshooting to maintain high-speed data transmission integrity.
- Support field service activities including site surveys, equipment installation, and customer service interactions to ensure client satisfaction.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely for equipment installation or repair tasks while adhering to safety protocols.
- Help document system configurations using schematics and technical manuals for future reference or troubleshooting.
- Participate in routine maintenance schedules to ensure optimal operation of electrical systems, network wiring, and telecommunication devices.
Skills
- Basic understanding of computer networking concepts including LAN (Local Area Network), Ethernet, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), and network wiring standards.
- Familiarity with telecommunication systems such as Avaya or similar PBX platforms.
- Knowledge of schematics reading for electrical wiring, network layouts, and system configurations.
- Experience with diagnostic tools like ohmmeters, RF testers, or similar testing equipment.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing devices safely.
- Understanding of low voltage wiring practices compliant with NEC standards.
- Knowledge of fiber splicing techniques and testing procedures.
- Basic familiarity with Cisco routers, Juniper networking gear, and network installation procedures.
- Customer service skills to effectively communicate technical information to clients or team members.
- Willingness to learn about data center environments including power systems, electrical safety protocols, and equipment repair processes.
